I love The Little Gym because I know I can reach out to any owner past or present and we'll support one another. Plus, COVID-19 hit soon after I purchased this gym. We had to rebuild our team three or four times within the first year and a half. One of those two people is now my gym director, and she's amazing. When I took over, within three months, I lost the entire staff except for two people. For some people, they didn't embrace the change well, despite the fact I'd been an owner for nine years at that time. I also had to gain the trust of the families in our gym by updating the facility and equipment and doing more team training. With my third location, I had to invest quite a bit of money into revamping the facility I had hoped it would take off like it did in Fayetteville, but it took the first year to develop that presence. We also had to invest more in marketing online. The team and I had to get out in the community and attend grassroots events and festivals, as well as develop partnerships with some schools. It also took some time to grow our brand in the Wilmington community. I spent a lot of hours on the road driving back and forth in that first year to make it successful.Īdditionally, my husband was deployed around the time I opened the second location, so all the parenting duties fell on me as well. I had to really trust my director at that time who'd helped me with my first location. My second location in Wilmington is an hour and 45 minutes away from my home in Fayetteville. A friend of mine who was in the process of opening her second business suggested a local bank. I was shocked since our gym was profitable within three years. However, the bank I'd been with for years turned me down. When I opened the second gym in Wilmington in 2014, I thought money wouldn't be an issue. You also need additional money for staff training, marketing, equipment, and other initial expenses. To open a Little Gym, you have to pay the franchise fee for the brand. Money was the biggest challenge in getting the first location My mother helped me out with a small loan as well from her insurance policy from my dad's death. Around that time, my father also died, so it was a hard time. After that, I applied for smaller loan types and was approved. Instead of focusing on one big loan, he told me to try getting smaller loans. I spent two years going to various banks and calling private investors just to be told no each time.įinally, I got a word of advice from a financial expert I called. To me, failure was not an option, and I was determined to make this work. We ended up taking out a home-equity loan to pay our franchise fee of $64,000. I'll never forget when we received approval from one bank and two weeks later, the bank manager was laid off. The majority of businesses had little faith in this business type. Around the time I decided to become a franchise owner, the 2008 recession hit I visited a few other locations and I loved the program, so I knew it was for us. I took my son who was two at the time to visit one in the Raleigh area, and he loved it. I'd never heard of one and found they had them practically everywhere but Fayetteville. I had a friend who suggested I check out The Little Gym. But there was that part of me that longed for something more, and eventually, I began looking at opportunities for a franchise.Īs my son got older, I realized we didn't have a lot to do in Fayetteville for kids. It started out with me reselling items I found in thrift stores and some electronics. While home, I began an eBay business, which I stopped when I opened The Little Gym. I stayed home with our son for a few years, but I was always itching to do something I didn't want to have to commute an hour and a half to work while worrying about childcare for my toddler, so I decided to give up my career and put energy into being a mom. My husband and I eventually decided to start our family and return to Fayetteville, North Carolina, when he got stationed back at Fort Bragg. I loved what I did but didn't always love the overnight hours. For about 10 years I worked as a news producer and reporter in several TV station markets around North Carolina, Florida, and Georgia Here's how I got into the franchise business. In 2021, the Fayetteville gym made $607,700 in revenue, while the Wilmington gym made $406,930 and the Cary gym made $476,3200 - making the average revenue per gym $432,500 last year. Ironically, it is also the easiest Attribute to ignore as the game does let you obtain Servoshells (ie Fallout style Power Armor that adds to Muscle) later on. Muscle is also a prerequisite of many Heavy Weapons (4 will let you use shotguns, 6 is needed for heavier weapons). Other uses: Bashing open locks, digging up buried treasures Secondary Statistics: Hit Points, Encumbrance, Close Quarter Damage Skills Affected: Heavy Weapons, Melee Weapons, Tech Note that there is a Perk at level 15 that will give you +1 to all you lowest ranked Attributes and another that will give you +1 to all Attributes if all of them are at least 5 or better.ĭo be advised that many Combat Skill Activated Abilities often use Attributes as part of their damage calculations. Generally a score of 6 is sufficient for most needs unless the Attribute is central to your play style. Many perks and certain Skill Abilities also require a decent rating in an Attribute, cross-reference with other guides already available on Steam to find out which. It is entirely possible for an option to be completely absent should the player not have the right attributes. There are quite a few Attribute checks in the game, not all of which are spelled out for the player. Otherwise drugs, which often lead to nasty addiction or side effects, can give a temporary boost.Īttributes give the base rating for a given set of skills and often affect secondary statistics. Two Perks can do it and some Skill Capstones also give permanent bonuses. There are not many ways to increase Attributes permanently in game. During character creation you will have 45 points to spend on these and they are precious. but they do have defining characteristics in the form of Attributes. Blues also have a decent bonus (+10 Learnability translates to free experience points) but there are relatively few dialogue options involving the Blue Wing. Black Wing characters get some delicious heavy armour and firepower early on which makes combat much easier. Silver Wing gets a lot of access and their +2 skill points a level snowball really quickly. Personally I have found Silver and Black Wing characters have the easiest time of it. Silver Wing uniforms are great at inspiring a crowd, not so good at dodging bullets for example. The uniforms have a variety of features, they grant various resistances but tend to also have drawbacks. It is possible for Black Wing characters for example to start the game with a machine gun. In general your starting gear will be your Wing’s standard uniform and a weapon in which your Wing is skilled. +1 Brains, +10 High-Tech Weapons, +15 Medicine, +15 Science, +20 Biochemical Resistance +1 Charisma, +2 Skill points per level, +20 Psionics, +20 Influence Silver Wing: Management and administration.+1 Deftness, +30 Encumbrance, +20 Criminal, +20 Survival Orange: Menial labourers, all of whom are convicted criminals.+1 Guts, +10 Learnability, +10 Melee Weapons, +15 Contraptions, +15 Tech +1 Muscle, +20 Fortitude, +15 Heavy Weapons, +15 Hand to Hand, +15 Melee Weapons, +20 Piloting Black Wing: Military, police and security.Certain dialogue options are only open to certain Wings which tend to award XP rather than solve quests. Now this is more Skyrim than it is Final Fantasy a Wing gives you a unique Perk reflecting your Wing’s aptitudes, has a modest effect on your starting equipment and has some impact on the story. Scott also said there are plenty of medical supplies on hand in Springfield, and the entire health system is working together to make sure all the hospitals get what they need quickly. "We can redeploy them where they are needed, and we are deploying additional staff as well, including hospital-owned ambulances," said Scott. Right now, many of those same hospital personnel are reporting to the field hospital for work, Scott said. In just 90 minutes, the hospital was evacuated. Hospital staff loaded patients on pickup trucks and did whatever they could to get them to safety. "We had to get them to facilities that could handle different medical conditions." "We had to determine the best course of action for everyone," Scott said. They were in the hospital for all sorts of different conditions before the storm struck. I’m thinking that with the attitude of cooperation and can-do that I’ve seen around Joplin it shouldn’t take us quite that long. Just last week, I read a Joplin Globe story about the difficulties that New Yorkers are having bringing their own 9-11 memorial project to closure. We will need to find the right folks to step to the plate and take on one of the most emotional and sensitive parts of our recovery. The CART’s job is to listen and to be your advocates. And as a practical matter, we’ll have to find a way to pay for what we decide is the right thing. We’ll need to figure out the line between living in the past and facing the future. We’ll have to decide what is not enough and also what is too much. Knowing where to draw the balance may be tough. We’re remembering our friends and co-workers, our parents and our children, our spouses and brothers and sisters. It’s Joplin that should decide because to us - it’s personal. There are remembrances that pay homage to victims in many parts of town – at Home Depot, at the 15th Street Walmart, and at the Pizza Hut on Rangeline just to name a few. Sixteen months after the storm, it seems to me that it is time to ask the question to all of you about what you believe is an appropriate memorial. Early on, this was a difficult subject to address because of the raw emotion associated with the event. When I look back at the hundreds and hundreds of suggestions made by Joplin citizens after the tornado, there is one item that received overwhelming support – a memorial to victims of the tornado. |
